Bianco’s Blog: A lazy day for the Great Pyrenees

Blanco is a beautiful, ok maybe handsome boy. He’s not young but not old. He’s turning nine years old February 20th this year. Can’t believe he joined our family in April of 2015 when our only other pet was Baxter, our Aussie. We did have chickens and horses, but I guess people consider chickens farm animals (pets) and horses as very large dogs 🙂

At that time we had a 13 year old Aussie. He was a great dog! We loved Baxter, even though he didn’t always love everyone, outside his pack that is. Baxter didn’t know what to make of Blanco and would have happily ignore him, if he could. He even tried to teach him how to ‘herd’ the chickens while they were free ranging. Blanco thought it was a game and chased the chickens.

Lots of loud squawking happened. Baxter could round up a chicken in 5 minutes, have the hens cornered, and put his mouth over it to hold it in place. He was really good at it. Smart dog. He crossed the rainbow bridge in 2016 when Blanco was just one.

Blanco only ever wanted to play, being a puppy. Got to say even as an adult, he didn’t catch on. He would chase those chickens and paw them. I would be yelling at him to stop! I was afraid he would crush one with his big paw. He just wanted to play. While being almost 9, he is still just a pup inside and always will be to us.

So today was a lazy day for him. Mostly spent the day sleeping on ‘his’ sofa, or the floor or in the bedroom on the carpet. Except when asking to go out so he could bark and warn everyone and everything around that he was in charge! He likes that as well as spending time at the front window barking at the squirrels, rabbits, worms, birds, and neighbors who dare to park in their own driveway! The nerve.

Tomorrow is another adventure the the Big Blanco dog, or Bianco’s Blog.
